Composting Toilet - Part 2

Hello everyone,

I did not hear anything on the composting toilets, so I did some research on my own that I thought I’d pass along.

Envirolet makes 3 flavors of composting toilets and is running a $500 off sale until January 10th.

The 3 kinds are:

1. Self-contained, waterless units (one piece, sit on the floor)
2. Remote, waterless units (2 pieces, with unit that goes under the camp, need ~ 3ft clearance)
3. Low water remote units (need water supply and also have remote unit that goes under the camp)

Within these 3 categories, you can get AC powered, 12V DC powered or no power options.

The power is used to drive fan motors that increase performance and capacity for use over just using a wind turbine alone at the top of a vent stack.

The units are made in Canada and ship to USA for $99.

We went for a self-contained, 12V DC system. I get the feeling a 12V marine battery will last a long time and if you have a way to charge it on the island (solar or taking the battery home), it would be even easier. The company said they would ship within 2 days via DHL and seem to be a pretty good company from what I can tell dealing with them on the phone and looking at their literature on the web.

They also have a referral program for new customers. If you do go down the path of buying one of these units, feel free to use my name as a referral. You will get an additional $50 off your purchase and I will get $50 too !

Feel free to drop me a note if anyone is interested in more info on this.
