Steve Unicel is the best other than satellite. The PCMCIA card is by Sierra Wireless #775 Aircard. 200 for the card and fifty a month for connection. GSM format. Runs @ 200kps but should be getting better as the system becomes more robust.

Subject: [Butler Island] Internet connectivity from Butler
Hi Everyone -
Happy Thanksgiving. I hope everyone is well. I have a quick question
for the masses. I may have a need to connect to the internet from my
laptop on Butler Island (sacrilege!) for work next year. Some of you
are connecting on your laptops already. Is everyone who is accessing
the internet from Butler dialing up through Unicel? Is Unicel the only
option for reliable connectivity out there? Any idea on what kind of
throuput/data rates you are getting? I have mobile phone service with
Verizon and my coverage is pretty bad on Butler. I have dialed up using
my cell phone and a data cable before - what is everyone else using?
PCMCIA cards I suspect?
Thanks for any hints and here's looking forward to April -
Steve
P.S. Some new features coming soon to the butlerisland.org site...
more details when there is something worth announcing.
