| Important Request re: off-island Firewood |
February 27, 2009 |
Dear Butler Islanders,
PLEASE DO NOT BRING FIREWOOD TO BUTLER ISLAND
I'd like to get the word out to all Butler Island residents. Please do not transport firewood from anywhere to the island. There are numerous diseases and insect infestations that are decimating the forests of the northeast and the most common means of their movement is through firewood transport. Asian Longhorn Beetles have made it a close as Worcester, MA and the Emerald Ash Borer is as close as the suburbs of Montreal. There are also some diseases that are here in VT already.
If you need firewood and have no source, there are others on the island, like me, who will gladly give you some, or even cut you some in order to keep imported wood off the island. Let me know if you need help.
Thank you for your help to keep the island ecosystems as healthy as possible.

| VT Health Department Tick and Lyme Disease Presentation |
April 4, 2005 |
Dr Patsy Tassler just confirmed that Saturday April 30th, 10AM at the Butler Island Marina will be the best time & day for the VT Health Department to make a presentation on ticks and Lyme Disease. They will have handouts on tick identification, and discuss various methods to control and possible eradicate ticks on Butler Island. This gathering is open to the public. We are planning on 50 people for handouts so if anyone thinks more people will come let David Bray know and he'll have Patsy bring more goodies.
Update - 4/13/05: Directions to the Butler Island Marina are here. Thanks, David. |

| Welcome to ButlerIsland.org! |
March 29, 2005 |
Thanks for visiting ButlerIsland.org! This site will hopefully help us, the Butler Island Community, share information from far away. We've created an e-mail list (sign up to the right) to help facilitate communication. Some other notes of interest: a photo gallery (upload your photos!), real-time weather information is coming, and if we can incorporate the Lake Champlain recreational forecast (available starting May 1 from the National Weather Service), we will. The email list will be archived to this website through the day.
Is there something else you'd like to see on this website? Let us know.
UPDATE - 4/3/05: Real-time weather data is here! To the right you will see data from Colchester Reef. We are probably going to also add data from Plattsburgh Airport soon. |
